Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2007.  Original data: Ledgers of Payments, 1818-1872, to U.S. Pensioners Under Acts of 1818 Through 1858 From Records of the Office of the Third Auditor of the Treasury, 1818-1872; (National Archives Microfilm Publication T718, 23 rolls); Records of the Accounting Officers of the Department of the Treasury, Record Group 217; National Archives, Washington, D.C.  1850 United States Federal Census Southern Division, Randolph, North Carolina  John Redding 72  Martha Redding 38  Thomas Redding 30  Eliza Redding  1860 United States Federal Census  Western Division, Randolph, North Carolina Asheboro  Thomas Redding 40  Eliza Redding 35  Sarah Redding 6  Martha Redding 3  Ann Redding 1  John Redding 83  Martha Redding 42  Jonathan Steed 9  Southern Campaign American Revolution Pension Statements & Rosters Pension application of John Redding S41971 fn45NC  Transcribed by Will Graves 12/21/09  County of Franklin State of Tennessee  On this 25th day of November 1823 personally appeared in open court being a court of record for the County of Franklin John Redding resident in said County aged sixty-six years who being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the acts of Congress of the18th of March 1818 and the 1st of May 1820.  That he the said John Redding enlisted for the term of 3 years in the month of March in the year 1775 in the State of North Carolina in the company commanded by Captain Tolly Powel in the Regiment commanded by Colonel Long he thinks Colonel Law commanded Colonel [illegible] later in the line of the State of North Carolina that he continued to serve in said corps until the month of March in the year 1778, when he was discharged from the said service at Halifax in the State of North Carolina.  That he was in the battles of Stono and at the capture of the Lee galley & Congress galley on the Savannah River.  That he has three six daughters to wit Patsy, Sally & Nancy all of whom are married, that he has no family living with him that he is a[indecipherable word, looks like "turuer"] by trade but that he is illable to work at said business.  That he has no other evidence now in his power of his said services except his own oath having lost his discharge.  And in pursuance of the act of the first of May 1820, I do solemnly swear that I was a resident Citizen of the United States on the 18thday of March 1818 and that I have not since that time by gift, sale or in any manner whatever disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself within the provision of an act of Congress entitled passed on the 18th day of March 1818, and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me any property, or securities, contracts or debts due to me nor have I any income other than what is contained in the schedule hereto annexed and by me subscribed (to wit)  Schedule1  1 It is not clear whether he intended $8 or $800  1 Bed & furniture worth $20  Divers debts due me by note 800  the probability of collecting which  is extremely doubtful. WILL BOOK 4 Pg. 267 November Term 1815  In the name of God Amen I Joseph Reding of the State of North Carolinaand County of Randolph being of sound and perfect mind and memoryblessed be God. do this the ninth day of January in the year of ourLord one thousand eight hundred & fifteen make and publish this mylast will & testament in manner following that is to say  John Reding I give and bequeath to John Reding one hundred & twentyfive acres of my land that is marked off to him Elizabeth Trogden Igive and bequeath to her forty shillings  Joseph Reding I give and bequeath to him a quantity of land where helives beginning at the fork of the branch on a Spanish oak  below his plantation and running down as the creek runs until it comesto the second hollar and taking up it to the line a south west course& begifiing again at the same place and running a northeast course tothe line  Nancy Reding I give and bequeath to her one hundred dollars.  Trulove Redding I give & bequeath to her one hundred acres of landbegining at the northwest corner of my land Joining Henleys landrunning where Henleys line for the complement in a square  Iredell Reding son of Thomas Reding. I give and bequeath to him fiftyacres of land joining Henleys land on the south side of sider? forksome improved and some not improved.  Jonathan Reding I give & bequeath the remainder of my land to him.  Jane Reding I give & bequeath to her the privledge of living in myhouse her lifetime and widowhood and. a maintenance of on my Estatethe property not mentioned to go to satisfy the debt I owe  And I hereby make and ordane my friends Jonathan Reding and JohnReding Executors of this my last will & testament in witness where ofI the said  Joseph Reding have to this my last will and testament set my hand andseal the day and year above mentioned all that is left besides whatsatisfys the debts to be Equally divided between Nancy Reding,Jonathan Reding, Trulove Reding except my Negroe Dick and for JaneReding to have him her life time and  after that to be free.  Signed sealed published and delivered by the said Joseph Reding thetestor as his last will and testament in the presence of us who warepresent at the time of signing & sealing thereof  Mary Swaim  State of N.
